Mineral Development Advisor — Two Positions Available

Brunswick House First Nation is accepting applications for two Mineral Development Advisor positions within the Lands and Resources Department.

The Mineral Development Advisor will support the community’s participation in consultation processes involving mineral exploration, mine development and mining closure activities. This position will serve as a technical and strategic resource for leadership and community members while supporting effective engagement with government agencies, industry proponents and other stakeholders.

Position Details

Consultation and Project Review

    • Review exploration plans, permit applications, closure plans, amendments and related notices.
    • Track regulatory timelines and support timely community responses.
    • Assist with preparing feedback and formal responses regarding proposed mining and exploration activities.
    • Coordinate community participation in consultation processes under the Ontario Mining Act.
    • Support community meetings concerning mineral exploration and mine development.
    • Coordinate and participate in site visits and field-engagement activities.
    • Help leadership and community members understand the technical aspects of proposed projects.
    • Support assessments of potential impacts on Aboriginal and Treaty Rights.
    • Assist with reviewing environmental assessment permits and authorizations.

Community Engagement and Awareness

    • Promote community awareness of mineral exploration, mine development and mine-closure processes.
    • Provide information about potential economic and community benefits associated with participation in the minerals sector.
    • Deliver presentations and information sessions to community leadership and membership.
    • Maintain relationships and ongoing communication with industry proponents and government representatives.

Technical and Administrative Support

    • Maintain records of project notices, responses, consultations and engagement activities.
    • Coordinate external technical support and consultants when required.
    • Support the preparation of reports and project documentation.
    • Assist with developing and implementing community strategies related to mineral development.

Professional Development

    • Participate in training, mentorship, conferences and networking opportunities.
    • Complete required Mining Act awareness and related training programs.
    • Remain informed about mining legislation, consultation requirements and industry best practices.

Qualifications

    • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Geography, Earth Sciences, Mining, Community Development, Public Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience working with Indigenous communities, government agencies, natural-resource development projects or the mining sector.
    • Strong knowledge of Ontario mining legislation, permitting processes and environmental assessment frameworks.
    • Proficiency with GIS, geoscience databases and mineral-resource modelling tools.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical information to diverse audiences.
