Per Capita Distribution (or PCD)

A per capita distribution is a payment by the band to each of its members.

What is a Per Capita Distribution or PCD?

A per capita distribution is a payment by the band to each of its members. Brunswick House First Nation (“BHFN”) has decided to administer a per capita distribution (“PCD”) in 2025.

PCDs allow BHFN to share some of the direct financial benefits the nation receives and are a way for BHFN to recognize and honour the contributions of our members to the life of our community.

When Will I get paid my PCD?

On or around December 15, 2025.This will give us enough time to receive and process applications.

What’s the deadline to apply?

December 1, 2025. If you are an adult, you should apply as soon as possible. You must submit the Application Form along with all required information.

If you do not submit by December 1, 2025 you will not be eligible for this PCD. There are only two exceptions: if you are currently a minor under the age of 18 (or were a minor as of July 16, 2025), you are exempted from the December 1, 2025 deadline.

You should wait until you turn 18 and then apply. And if you are a person under disability, you are also exempted from the December 1, 2025 deadline and someone can apply on your behalf at any time.

Do I have to apply for the PCD?

Yes, and you are only eligible if you were alive and a BHFN Member or a Member-In-Waiting on July 16, 2025.

A “Member-in-Waiting” is a person who has applied (or had someone else apply on their behalf) for birth registration or Indian status, provided that afterwards, the person is both granted Indian status and added to BHFN’s band registry.

Note that Members-in-Waiting won’t be paid their PCD until they have status and have been added to the band registry.

Should I apply for my child?

No. Parents and guardians should not apply for minors under their care.  Minors under 18 are not subject to the deadline to apply. They should wait until they turn 18 years old and then apply directly. In the meantime, their PCD will be safekept by BHFN and invested for steady and conservative growth.

When the PCD is paid, they will get the original amount plus their pro rata share of the growth. If you are a parent or guardian and want to request early release of your child’s PCD, please contact the band administration for more information.

Can I apply for a person under disability?

A ‘Person Under Disability’ is defined as someone who is unable to manage or make reasonable judgments or decisions in respect of their affairs by reason of mental incapacity AND for whom a personal representative has been appointed pursuant to the applicable provincial or federal legislation to manage property/finances.

If you wish to apply for a person under a disability, please fill out the form on their behalf and provide additional documentation showing you have been appointed. If you don’t have documentation, please contact the band administration.

Note that there is no deadline for making such applications.

I get social assistance. Will this payment impact that?

In Ontario, these types of payments can usually be received without impacting social benefits or assistance, but BHFN does not decide how those social assistance programs work, so we can’t guarantee anything. It will depend on the province and your specific circumstances. If your case manager has questions about the PCD, please contact band administration and we can provide you with a letter that explains why we think this payment should not have an impact.

There are only two exceptions to the December 1, 2025 deadline:
