Director of Child and Family Advocacy

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Child and Family Advocacy will oversee the Band Representative Department, Jordan’s Principle Services, Post Majority Care Program and the Choose Life Program.

With Direction from Chief and Council the Director will work cooperatively internal (committees, and other departments within Brunswick House) and external organizations including child welfare organizations, prevention and mental health service providers. With the best interest of Brunswick House First Nation children and families in mind the director will design, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the Child and Family Advocacy services and programs. The Director is responsible for the overall well-being of all on and off reserve children and families of Brunswick House First Nation.

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and supervision to the Child and Family Advocacy team ensuring the services align with Brunswick House First Nation strategic plan and demonstrate results in realizing the objectives and goals of the programs.
    • Supervise and effectively lead program managers to meet goal deadlines and advocate for children and families.
    • Effectively manage and coordinate work projects ensuring deadlines, target dates, and tasks are successfully completed within budget
    • Identify and assess sector developments, trends, best practices, and government policy directions that impact Brunswick House First Nation Prevention Programs
    • Liaise and advocate with the Band Representative team, legal counsel and agencies
    • Submit capital project applications, and yearly coordination of service applications to ISC to ensure funding is available to successfully run programs
    • Complete updates for Chief and Council and community members monthly or when requested
    • Plan, organize, and monitor services and programs ensuring all activities are consistent with legislation, practice standards, regulations and funding requirements
    • Develop, coordinate and provide training for Brunswick House First Nation service providers and prevention workers
    • Coordinate and facilitate meetings that lead to recommended improvements to applicable Brunswick House First Nation support services

Qualifications

    • University degree in Social Work (BSW, HBSW, and/or MSW) and 5 years or more working with children, youth and families within Child Welfare sector.
    • 2-5 years of experience coordinating and managing social services and programs.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations including the Child, Youth and Family Service Act
    • Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations and communities
    • Understanding of Brunswick House First Nation communities, structures, cultures and traditions
