Hydroponic Technician
Part-Time / Permanent
Brunswick House First Nation is seeking a motivated and dependable Hydroponic Technician to support the operation of the BHFN Hydroponic Greenhouse.
This is a part-time, permanent position with the Economic Development Department. The Hydroponic Technician will assist with daily greenhouse operations in a year-round indoor greenhouse that produces fresh, local vegetables for the community.
About the Role
The Hydroponic Technician will help with planting, harvesting, cleaning, packaging, maintenance, and customer or community support. The successful candidate will follow established procedures, food safety practices, and workplace safety standards to help ensure high-quality produce is grown and delivered.
Priority will be given to qualified Brunswick House First Nation members who meet the job requirements. Experience in hydroponics or commercial farming is not required. Training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities

- Seed, transplant, harvest, clean, and package fresh produce.
- Complete regular greenhouse cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance tasks.
- Follow standard operating procedures, food safety practices, and health and safety requirements.
- Monitor plants and report concerns related to plant health, equipment, pests, or production issues.
- Assist with deliveries, sales, customer service, or produce sampling as needed.
- Support community events or booths that promote local food production and healthy eating.
- Participate in training related to hydroponic systems, food safety, and worker safety.
- Maintain basic records as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Job Requirements

- Reliable, self-motivated, and willing to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety rules.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable using basic technology such as tablets, iPads, computers, Google, or Microsoft Office.
- Good reading and writing skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing tasks.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada.
- Valid driver’s licence is an asset and may be required if assisting with deliveries.
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs., or up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, and perform hands-on work during shifts.
Assets

- Experience growing vegetables, plants, or gardens.
- Certificate, diploma, or degree in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field.
- Greenhouse, farm, food production, maintenance, or delivery experience.
- Interest in food security, healthy eating, and community-based food production.
