Family Support Worker
Full Time Contract up to March 31, 2026
Reporting to the Manager of Child and Family Advocacy, the Family Support Worker will work to ensure to provide practical assistance, support, and a coordination of services for children, parents, caregivers, and the family unit.
Duties & Responsibilities

- Create relevant weekly programming for men and women with children 0-18 that is rooted in their Indigenous culture and identity to foster good relationships, develop parenting skills and healthy coping
- Model and coach effective parenting skills and child management techniques (ex. positive patterns of attachment, positive self-esteem, home childproofing, communication skills, behavioural strategies )
- Teach families life skills such as budgeting, meal planning, de-cluttering, food preparation, cleaning, chore charts and household maintenance.
- Create relevant weekly programming rooted in their Indigenous identity and culture for children and families to allow for a safe space to bond as a family and heal from intergenerational trauma.
- Complete weekly home visits with high-risk families to demonstrate and implement life skills in the home as well as to support with accessing and attending any required services (ex. NA meeting, mental health services, parenting programs)
- Support the reintegration of children in their families by working with the family, other BHFN staff and external service providers to adequately address the concerns brought forward by the Child Protective Agency
Qualifications

- Complete all mandatory training including Indigenous Canada, CPR and First Aid, Family Mediation Training as well as any training discussed with your manager that you feel is appropriate to complete your duties.
- Keep proper records of program attendance, one on ones and home visits for reporting
- Participate in case conferences and the evaluation of the Band Representative Department
