Early Learning Assistant

Full-Time

Brunswick House First Nation is accepting applications for the position of Early Learning Assistant – Full-Time.

Reporting to the Early Learning Coordinator, the Early Learning Assistant works in collaboration with staff and supervisors to support families and children, connect with the community, and assist with childcare responsibilities related to the day-to-day operations of the daycare centre.

Starting Salary: $44,720 – $45,000
Reports To: Early Learning Coordinator
Location: Brunswick House First Nation Administration

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support childcare centre operations, including:
    • Ensuring the centre meets legal requirements, including licensing regulations.
    • Assisting in the development of childcare programs.
    • Keeping up to date on issues related to program design and delivery.
  • Support children and families, including:
    • Guiding and assisting children during activities, routines, and transition times.
    • Communicating with supervisors and families to arrange alternate pickup for late children.
    • Maintaining the health and safety of children, including implementing monthly fire drills.
  • Maintain professional and administrative responsibilities, including:
    • Respecting confidentiality when working with parents, children, and staff.
    • Relating to parents, children, and other staff members in a professional and ethical manner.
    • Ensuring proper forms are completed and records are maintained.
    • Preparing written documents to meet program information and communication needs.
    • Completing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education and certification:
    • Early Childhood Education diploma or degree will be considered an asset.
    • Registered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators considered an asset.
    • Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
    • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employment.
  • Experience and knowledge:
    • 1–2 years of related experience considered an asset.
    • Solid understanding of child development.
    • Knowledge of First Nations culture and language would be an asset.
    • Knowledge of the community considered an asset.
  • Skills and requirements:
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with families, colleagues, service providers, and regulatory program advisors.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
    • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
    • Valid Class G driver’s licence is required.
