Discovery Silver Borden Mine Site

Brunswick House First Nation is seeking a full-time Environmental Monitor to work at the Discovery Silver Borden Mine Site.

The Environmental Monitor will support ongoing environmental information review and gathering to help ensure that environmental commitments made by the Discovery Silver Borden Mine are being delivered upon.

Training will be provided by Blue Heron Environmental Services and will include in-class presentation and on-site practical training.

Position Details

Position: Environmental Monitor
Starting Salary: $21.50
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Discovery Silver – Borden Mine Site, approximately 15 minutes from Chapleau, Ontario
Term: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Schedule: 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday

Daily Duties

    • Participate in morning huddles at the mine site
    • Complete daily 5-point cards and any required risk assessments
    • Complete daily checklists based on water permit compliance requirements
    • Conduct daily environmental inspections on site, including hazardous waste and environmental inspections
    • Inspect sites requiring sediment control
    • Monitor and assist in spill response
    • Contact Discovery employees if something unacceptable needs to be addressed
    • Shadow contractors completing monitoring or studies on site

Weekly and Monthly Duties

    • Assist with sampling programs, including air, water, noise, vibration, and other environmental monitoring activities
    • Document GPS coordinates at each sample location
    • Order additional lab supplies as needed
    • Update the field binder as needed
    • Enter sampling results once received
    • Complete reports on mitigation effectiveness, recommended improvements, and upcoming activities and mitigation measures

Qualifications

    • Must be a member of Brunswick House First Nation
    • Ability to work with limited supervision
    • Willingness to work outdoors, as approximately 80% of work is conducted in the field
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Must be willing to take the shuttle from town to the mine site for work
