Role of Governance

Administration and Coordination

  • Managing daily operations of the Nation’s governance structures.
  • Coordinating meetings, events, and consultations with community members and leaders.
  • Ensuring effective communication within the community and with external stakeholders.

Policy Development and Implementation

  • Assisting in the creation, revision, and implementation of policies that reflect the community’s values, needs, and goals.
  • Ensuring policies comply with both traditional laws and modern legal frameworks.

Advocacy and Representation

  • Representing the Nation in negotiations and discussions with government bodies, organizations, and other First Nations.
  • Advocating for the rights and interests of the community.

Cultural Preservation

  • Promoting and integrating traditional practices, languages, and customs into the governance structures.
  • Working with Elders and cultural leaders to ensure that cultural heritage is respected and preserved.

Economic Development

  • Facilitating initiatives that support economic growth and sustainability within the community.
  • Identifying opportunities for partnerships and funding that benefit the Nation.

Community Engagement

  • Ensuring that community members are informed and involved in decision-making processes.
  • Organizing forums, surveys, and other methods to gather input and feedback from the community.

Education and Capacity Building

  • Providing training and resources to enhance the governance capacity of community members.
  • Promoting educational initiatives that support the development of future leaders.

Strategic Planning

  • Assisting in the development of long-term strategic plans that guide the Nation’s growth and development.
  • Ensuring that plans are adaptable to changing circumstances and community needs.

P&ID

The Professional and Institutional Development Program (P&ID) funds projects that develop the capacity of communities to perform core functions of governance.

CCP

Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP) is an Indigenous-designed way of developing a long-term community plan that is holistic and integrates the work of all the departments and programs in a community-led vision for the future.

    • Fall intake application forms are due on or before June 1st.
    • Winter intake application forms are due on or before October 1st.

Indigenous Early Learning & Child Care

The Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care program is developed to help strengthen early learning and child care for Indigenous families and children between the ages of 0 – 6. 

Programs include but are not limited to: infant and child development, learning through play, land based learning,  school readiness, parent support/drop in sessions and child care transportation to name a few.
